Tarangire has some of the most ferocious wildlife perhaps due to the fact that the park borders hunting grounds and so most of the wildlife in the park are very fierce compared to those in the Ngorongoro or Lake Manyara.  The park is about 3 hours drive from Arusha. The Tarangire River snakes its way across the park offering wildlife a constant source of water and provides fabulous viewpoints to observe wildlife. The terrain is part-forest and part plain. Tarangire is best visited in the dry months of July to September when large numbers of animals gather along the banks of the river.
Tarangire attracts large herds of elephants and the signs of their activity are apparent on most of the old baobab trees dotted around the parks. Night game drives can be arranged from the Kikoti Tented Camp and Tarangire Treetops Lodge on the outskirts of the park where nocturnal animals can be found going about their daily activities and foraging for food (it is not possible to drive inside any of the national parks between 6pm-6pm).

There are a number of beautiful lodges and campsites at Tarangire and the landscape of the park is a must for those wanting to view the different terrains and experience a night in the wild.
