ICELANDIC ASH CLOUD CAUSES FLIGHT DISRUPTIONS IN SCOTLAND

Many flights to and from Scotland have be cancelled on Tuesday 24 May as volcanic ash from Iceland heads towards the UK. Passengers are advised to check with their airlines after several airlines announced they are cancelling flights to and from Scotland.

British Airways have cancelled flights between England and Scotland today. KLM has cancelled all flights into and out of Aberdeen, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Newcastle on Tuesday.

"We do not envisage the same kind of blanket closures of airspace we experienced last year. Airlines will be able to operate in lower concentrations of ash providing they can present us with a safety case.", Foreign Secretary William Hague said yesterday (source: www.ttglive.com)

Authorities say the latest eruption is not likely to cause as much disruption as there is little wind to spread the ash. Also, as it is coarser than the ash from last year's eruption; it is falling back to the ground quicker rather than floating long distances.

The Foreign Office and the airline industry is monitoring the situation and will provide advice on any further developments.  For up to date travel advice and reports on the volcanic ash cloud situation visit the Foreign Office website

Aim 4 Africa is monitoring the situation and will advise any clients that may be effected by possible airport closures. If you need to contact us for the latest government advice then please telephone 0845 408 4541

BOY FROM SHEFFIELD YOUNGEST EUROPEAN NATIONAL TO CONQUER KILIMANJARO!

Callum and Cyril Cutinha, aged 9 and 15 years respectively, from Sheffied, United Kingdom summitted Kilimanjaro's highest peak, Uhuru Peak (5895m asl) via the Machame route in 5 days on 14th August 2010.

The Machame route is known to be one of the most challenging up Kilimanjaro (dubbed the "Whiskey Route") which most adults trek in 7 days. Callum is thought to be the youngest person to have conquered Kilimanjaro using this route, and the second youngest in the world to conquer the World's Highest Free-standing Volcano (Keats from the USA being the youngest to climb Kilimanjaro using the less challenging Marangu route in 2008). With no prior pre-trek preparation, Callum, a Year 5 pupil from St Marie's School in Sheffield, and his brother Cyril from Notre Dame High School (Year 11), both reached Uhuru Peak with their parents Patrick and Nancy Cutinha, directors of adventure travel company Aim 4 Africa Ltd based in Sheffield. The family celebrated their victory on Africa's highest peak on Patrick and Nancy's wedding anniversary.

MAASAI MARATHON + MAASAI VILLAGE WATER PROJECT UPDATE
Following the successful fund raising by six Maasai Warriors from Eluai Village in Northern Tanzania, Aim 4 Africa, co-sponsors of the Maasai Marathon in April 2008, are proud to announce that GBP115,000 was raised for the village water project! Well Done and Many Thanks to all our clients and friends who contributed - this overwhelming response has gone to show how amazing you all are! Asanteni Sana! Many Maasai Families in Northern Tanzania can now enjoy safe drinking water - Thanks to YOUR generosity and support!

Aim 4 Africa carried out an intensive awareness campaign to highlight the plight of Eluai village (and other villages in the area) who had little access to clean water.
Paul Martin of Greenforce, the charity organizing the London Marathon in April, said the organization were thrilled at the response received from the campaign. The initial target was GBP20,000-GBP60,000.

Aim 4 Africa continues to monitor the project and works with other local village development projects to ensure that local communities can benefit from life’s essentials that we all in the West seem to take for granted.
Drilling work commenced at the end of November 2008 to source water from underground sources at Eluai Village.
For more updates regarding the program or to find out about other similar projects we are involved in, contact us at enquiries@aim4africa.com
