KENYA

NAIROBI
Kenya's capital is a busy cosmopolitan city, the largest between Cairo and Johannesburg. It is relatively easy to find a variety of airlines that fly here from various parts of the world. Connecting to nearby Tanzania and Uganda is also an option that is very popular among visitors to East Africa.
Among places to visit whilst in Nairobi are the Kenya International Conference Centre, offering wonderful views over Nairobi; the Bomas of Kenya - a cultural centre at Langata and near Nairobi National Park - home to the country's largest population of black rhino and sporting a wetland with over 550 species of birdlife and all manner of flora and fauna in the shadows of Nairobi's skyscrapers.
Other places to visit are the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, a sanctuary for orphaned black rhino and elephant; the Langata Giraffe Centre and Giraffe Manor, where children in particular find it entertaining to feed the Rothschild giraffes; the Karen Blixen Museum, and the Carnivore - voted one of the world's best restaurants where a huge barbeque of farmed game meats such as crocodile, zebra and hartebeest are served along with other more common meats and poultry.
Nairobi is the base for many of Kenya's safari destinations as well as being an interesting destination in its own right, or a stopover for connections to Tanzania or Uganda.

KENYA SAFARI HIGHLIGHTS
MAASAI MARA
Witness the Great Migration, home of the Big Cats (and the "Big Cat Diary"), Maasai Mara is the most famous park in Kenya, also home to other big and small mammals, birdlife and reptiles. Best place to do a hot air ballooning safari and walking safaris in the concession areas bordering the park. Visits to Maasai bomas also available.

SAMBURU
Our favourite park in Kenya - home to 5 endangered species including the reticulated giraffe, somali blue ostrich, vulturine guineafowl, oryx and gerenuk (giraffe antelope). This park is also home to huge herds of elephant, big cats including lion, cheetah and leopard, and hippo and crocodiles. Plenty of birdlife, Camel rides and visits to Samburu villages also available.

AMBOSELI
This is the only park in Kenya where one can truly enjoy the magnificence of Kilimanjaro. It is also home to large herds of elephant (particularly in the swampy marshes), wildebeest and zebra, different kinds of antelope, giraffe, buffalo and big cats including lion and cheetah. One of the more unusual antelopes found here is the gerenuk (also known as giraffe antelope) Plenty of birdlife.

LAKES NAKURU & NAIVASHA
Breeding ground and home to thousands of flamingo, pelicans and other birdlife, this is an ornithological haven. Plenty of smaller mammals around the lake. Beautiful and easy to combine with Maasai Mara, Samburu and Amboseli.

Home to the legendary "maneaters of Tsavo", this is the largest park in Kenya and home to massive herds of elephant, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, antelope of different kinds, and over 250 species of birdlife. Combines easily with a beach holiday in Mombasa or Watamu.
